We Need to Protect Airline Safety & Jobs

Forty-four hundred Northwest Airlines’ employees — members of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) — were forced to strike on August 20, 2005 in response to the company’s outrageous demands that called for outsourcing 53% of their members’ jobs (later increased to 77% and then to 90%) and massive wage, benefit and work-rule concessions for those remaining. Board members and executives who are enormously wealthy and very close to the Bush Administration instigated those demands. Northwest now claims it has replaced all 4,400 strikers, many with more than 20 years experience, with scabs off the street.

We urgently request your help so that the striking mechanics, custodians and cleaners can save union jobs and win this struggle. This website focuses on the issues at Northwest, on the airline’s top policymakers and how you can help.

Northwest and its top policymakers are leading a new wave of union-busting by using permanent replacements and the bankruptcy courts in an effort to destroy every union at Northwest. Other companies are studying Northwest’s game plan closely in hopes of following its shameful example.
